Germany's Inflation Rate Climbs to 2.7 Percent in March

(MENAFN) Germany's annual inflation rate climbed to 2.7% in March, reaching its highest point since January 2024, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Monday.

Energy prices led the surge, jumping 7.2% year-on-year — marking the first increase in that category since December 2023, according to Destatis' preliminary figures.

The core inflation rate, stripping out volatile food and energy components, held at 2.5% over the same period, signaling that underlying price pressures remain firmly embedded in Europe's largest economy.
Food prices edged up a modest 0.9% compared to March of last year, while consumer prices broadly rose 1.1% month-on-month from February — a jump that underscores the continued strain on household purchasing power.

Destatis has scheduled the release of its final March inflation figures for April 10.
